Wolf! Wolf! is about a boy, a group of villagers, a herd of goats and of course a grumpy old wolf. But did you reallize that the pages of Wolf! Wolf! are filled with other animals and insects?
-There are 36 flies, 15 ants, 13 butterflies, 6 dragonflies, 5 birds, 4 ladybugs, 3 rabbits and 3 koi fish. Can you find them all?
-There is another counting game hidden within the pages of Wolf! Wolf! Can you figure out what it is? (hint: Start where the story begins and count every animal you find on that spread. Go to the next spread and try it again. Remember not to count the wolf twice in any spread.)

Discussion Starters...
Here are some questions that might spark further discussion.
-When the Boy cries, "Wolf! Wolf!" for the third time, why don't the villagers come to see if he and the goats are alright? What happens when you always say things that are not true? Will people believe you when you are telling the truth?
-When the Wolf discovers the plump goat in his garden, why does he choose not to eat her? How does that relate to the following expression? If you give a man a fish he will eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will eat for a lifetime.

Art and Discovery Activity ...
Before the grumpy old wolf retired to his garden on a mountain in China, he lived in many other places. Draw what he might look like when he lived in Germany, Russia, Antarctica, the United States or any other place you can think of. In China he wears a traditional silk jacket and carries an umbrella. What would he wear in other places? Lederhosen? Jean Jacket?
